The Aussies Like Pennsylvania Beer

The group of jugglers that we have befriended here have a few world travelers among them, with the States being one of the destination points. Two of them, Danni & Dale, have not only been to Seattle, but have also been to State College, PA (home of Penn State University) — pretty darn close to where I grew up, when you consider how far Perth, their hometown, is from Pennsylvania.

During our weekly juggling practice in Sydney's downtown Hyde Park this past Sunday, beer was the topic of conversation — we had been chided for having Toohey's New in our fridge, which is about the equivalent of Miller or PBR.

Soon the discussion turned to microbrews (and Australia's lack of decent beers — but then again, Crash and I are spoiled having come from the microbrew capitol of the US), and I asked the big question:

What, from all their state-wide travels, was the favorite US microbrew of wonder-jugglers Danni & Dale?

Their answer absolutely astonished me:

Troeg's — an obscure brewery in Harrisburg, owned and run by 2 brothers (Chris & John Trogner) that I went to school with in PA.

Small world!

Danni & Dale will be in Portland, Oregon this late July (for a juggling event, of course), and by then I'll be fresh back from a trip on the east coast — I'll have to bring a 6-pack of Troeg's back from Harrisburg for them.
